Hello hello everyone! It has been a little bit since my last song recommendation post. I posted a blog review in between, check that out if you have not already! Since my last music suggestion A TON has happened. Not only is school online for the rest of the spring semester, but I am now under a Stay-at-home order issued by my hometown of Nederland, Texas. Needless to say, I have been so insanely bored that I am honestly excited to get back to school just so I feel like I have something to do. The only thing keeping me sane in a small town surrounded by only my parents and siblings is: Netflix, and music (of course).
Being so painfully bored has made me sink down into my roots a little bit when it comes to music. A love for Stevie Nicks has went back generations for me. Not only do my mom and dad both enjoy her music, but they learned to love her from their parents as well. THAT is how you know you are dealing with a legendary musician. Leather and Lace is a song that young witch-like Stevie Nicks wrote and released in October of 1981. Leather and Lace is a love song written during Stevie and bandmate Lindsey Buckingham’s breakup.
The lyrics and melody of this song are so delicate and pure. It is easily one of Nicks’ greatest known songs. The chorus reads, “give to me your leather, take from me my lace.” I love that line so much because it makes me think of the classic sweet girl, rebel boy relationship. When you are in a relationship with someone you give and take a little bit of each other, and this song explains that. Stevie Nicks’ whole vibe and aura she gives off is always so cool, but in this song, you can feel the emotion behind it. It is and will always be such a classic in my eyes.
